eco lawn - Moss Acres Moss Acres is proud to announce a solution for larger sunny or shady lawn areas that just aren't practical for moss:

Do you have an existing lawn area that needs re-vitalizing (over-seeding) or are you planning to establish a new lawn area soon?

Why not consider converting your lawn to a low-maintenance and environmentally friendly specialty grass blend that will thrive in both full sun or deep shade. Your new lawn will require minimal mowing - just once every 4 - 5 weeks, and a lot less water, if any.

The Ultimate Low Maintenance, Drought Tolerant Lawn!

Key Benefits of Eco-Lawn™

eco lawn - Moss Acres Environmentally Friendly!

Did you know that a lawn mower running for one hour emits the same amount of pollution as 40 new automobiles running for one hour?

Did you know that over 13 million gallons (49,210,353.4 litres) are spilled annually when filling up lawn mowers, trimmers and other landscaping power tools? That is 2 million gallons (7,570,9823.6 litres) more than was spilled from the Exxon Valdez!

Since Eco-Lawn™ needs to be mowed only once a month at the most, you will be reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions and dramatically reducing gasoline spillage!

Eco-Lawn™ is the ultimate low maintenance lawn. This specially designed blend of seven fine fescue grasses, grows to form a dense turf on loam, well drained clay and even in infertile, dry soils! Eco-Lawn™ thrives in full sun, part shade and even in deep shade conditions! Eco-Lawn™ reduces your maintenance time and costs . . . with Eco-Lawn™ you don't have to mow, water, fertilize or aerate . . . saving you time and money and helping to create a healthier environment.

Fall is the best time to establish or over-seed an existing lawn area.

Drought Tolerant

Eco-Lawn™ produces grass blades that are very thin and thus don't require the amount of water that typical, thick bladed lawn grasses demand. Eco-Lawn™ also creates roots that grow deep into the ground, so Eco-Lawn™ can seek out needed nutrients and water naturally, thus eliminating the need for watering. Eco-Lawn™ is perfect for areas where water conservation is important and is excellent for establishing new lawns, erosion buffers and bank stabilizations.

No fertilizers or chemicals required!

Eco-Lawn™, unlike traditional turf grasses, creates a deep root system. It will make roots up to 9 inches (22.86 cm) deep in hard pan clay soils and up to 14 inches (35.56 cm) deep in sandy soils! These deep root systems enable Eco-Lawn™ to naturally source the nutrients it requires from the soil so you don't need to add chemical fertilizers!

Less vulnerable to grubs!

Grubs are the larvae of June Bugs and non-native Japanese Beetles. These creatures live as grubs in moist soils for two years and then emerge as adults in early summer. The adults only live for about 6 weeks, so their number one goal is to reproduce! In nature the female beetles, once pregnant, lay their eggs in the moist soils of pond edges and stream banks. Today, grubs are most often found in well watered lawns. This is because the traditional lawn has no real root systems and demands that you water it, making the soil surface of your lawn soft and damp - the exact conditions that the female beetles want to lay their eggs in! Since Eco-Lawn™ requires very little, if any, watering once established, the surface of the soil is hard and thus it is less attractive to the adult beetles looking to lay their eggs. So they simply go somewhere else to lay their eggs and you don't get grubs!

eco lawn - Moss Acres Reduce your mowing time or don't mow at all!

Eco-Lawn™ while quick to germinate, is a very slow growing grass that has a fine textured, dense, low-growing habit, so you don't have to mow it if you don't want to! Left unmown, over the course of a full growing season, the grass blades of Eco-Lawn™ will grow to about 9 inches long, but because the blades of Eco-Lawn™ are so fine, it falls over to about a 4 inch height creating a gentle, flowing carpet-like appearance. If you prefer a more 'cropped lawn look', occasional mowing will be necessary. Mow Eco-Lawn™ no more than once a month to a height of 3 to 4 inches for a classic lawn look. Eco-Lawn™ saves you time and money!

Eco-Lawn™ is not only good for the environment, it's also financially rewarding!

For example: If you are paying $40.00 a week to have your lawn cut, you will save $800.00 annually on mowing expenses alone with Eco-Lawn™. And since Eco-Lawn™ requires no watering or expensive fertilizers your total annual savings will exceed $1000.00! So when you have an Eco-Lawn, you are not only helping the environment, you're helping your bank account too!

A study published in the year 2000, entitled "Residential Landscapes: Comparison of Maintenance Costs, Time and Resources" prepared by Ecological Outlook for the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation determined that drought tolerant, slow growing low maintenance lawns such as Eco-Lawn™ had the "lowest annual maintenance costs" of all forms of landscaping and were "the most time, material and cost-efficient" of all landscape types studied. Eco-Lawn™ is envirological landscaping at its best!
